(Bill) Grant and members who attended the first two organizational meetings he convened, the society quickly grew and now includes representatives from several states and continents. We are an interdisciplinary group: Our membership is made up of landscape architects, scholars, garden directors, designers, historians, preservationists, writers, librarians, educators, government professionals, and of course passionate gardeners and plant lovers. Our activities are focused on promoting wider knowledge, preservation, and restoration of California’s historic gardens and landscapes. Conferences and Events: Since our founding we have held an annual meeting and conference as well as other events. Subjects have ranged from the rich contributions of Japanese garden design to the mosaic of the California landscape to the long history and contributions of the Sonoma County nursery industry. Eden, Our Quarterly Journal: The first issue of Eden was published May, 1996. Issues of Eden include articles based on original research into California's garden and landscape history, reviews of the latest book related to our mission, and news about preservation efforts and challenges throughout the state. |
